Fun Things Happening in Midway

So many things going on in Midway!  Friday, June 8, 2012 is the first “Furlong Friday” of 2012.  Billed as a “Block Party”, music will be provided by the extremely talented “Superfecta” and “open container” status has been granted for the streets of Midway so patrons can move from one venue to another with no worries about their adult beverages landing them in trouble.  Speaking of adult beverages – Kennydid Gallery of Photographic Art is once again hosting an Open House with a little wine (maybe a beer or two can be found) with cheese & crackers and other light fare.  If you are in Midway this Friday night, stop in for some beautiful photographic art.  There are some new pieces by new photogs that have been added just this week.  Well worth the trip.
Kennydid Gallery will offer a basic camera workshop beginning at 10:00 AM on June 23.  Go to www.kennydid.com for details.  An excellent class to learn to capture outstanding photographs.
Francisco’s Farm Art Fair returns to Equus Run on June 23 & 24, then “Sparks in the Park” on July 3.
A really fun time will be had on July 13 when Furlong Friday will feature “Conch Republic”!  All Jimmy Buffett fans will need to be in attendance for this really fun Block Party.  Parrotheads will abound!
September 15 & 16 will welcome the 38th annual Midway Fall Festival with arts & crafts, food and beverage vendors and much, much more.  Mark your calendars!
More events are scheduled in September, October and December so stay tuned for more.
Until next time………….

Rainy Days and Photographs

It was certainly an interesting and adventurous weekend in the Kennydid world.  Kenny Smith, owner of Kennydid Gallery of Photographic Art and Upstairs Studio, was an artist vendor at MayFest in Gratz Park in Lexington, KY.  Saturday was a nice, pleasant day with temps in the 70’s, lots of nice folks strolling around enjoying the music, food, arts and crafts and the ambiance of the day.  Overall it was a very good day……………….
Then the rains came!  And came, and came, and came!!!  Saturday night and most of the day on Sunday, everything which wasn’t hermetically sealed was wet.  Water and photos do not mix well at all.  It has been learned that “water repellent” and “water proof” are not the same thing.  Kenny has decided that this was an omen for him to go shoot new works since his other stuff is “all wet”!
Alexey Stiop, another Kennydid Gallery artist, was also a participant at MayFest but his work seems to have survived relatively intact with only minor damage sustained.  His work is now back hanging in the gallery.  Alexey is very talented and has some very beautiful work on display in the gallery.
On a brighter note, everything in the gallery is nice and dry.  Some new work by a new photographic artist is scheduled to arrive this week.  More on that work soon.
A new schedule of workshops is being finalized.  Some exciting material will be covered from basics to natural light photography, portraiture to equine subjects and more.  Some very talented photographer/instructors are being lined up to offer the best instruction possible.  It should be an exciting time for photography this summer in Midway.  Stay tuned for all the particulars.
Until next time………………
